Tips for a stylish pregnancy without maternity clothes

I had fun dressing up my baby bump but I didn’t buy maternity clothes. I didn’t want to spend money on clothes I was only going to wear for a few months. I didn’t gain a lot of weight during my pregnancy, so if you’re in the same boat or if you’re on a budget, here are a few tips on how to be stylish during pregnancy without buying maternity clothes.

The best tip I got was the rubber band trick

I would use a hair tie or a rubber band to keep my jeans up. Then when my belly grew I would wear my jeans unzipped and unbuttoned. I would cover it up with a long shirt, multiple layers or a sweater.

Leggings are a girl’s best friend!

Black leggings match with practically everything, they are comfortable, stretchable and inexpensive. You can dress it up or dress it casual. I was pregnant from the summer through end of winter. During the summer, leggings were perfect for the humid weather. During the winter, leggings were perfect because I wore multiple layers of clothes to survive the harsh winter snow.

Wear your clothes until they no longer fit

Rise your hand if you have a closet full of clothes but when you’re getting dressed it seems like you have nothing to wear. Now that you’re pregnant it might seem like nothing fits and maybe it’s true and maybe it’s not. Get creative. I had a few t-shirts that were long on me and I wore them when I was pregnant and they fit perfectly. Go through your wardrobe and I assure you that you do have clothes that fit you.

Accessorize and wear layers!

I didn’t tell my boss I was pregnant until I was 6 months, so I had to make sure I hid my bump. I wore blazers, scarfs, coats, jackets and several layers.

Your body is changing so just go with it

My feet were swollen the 3rd trimester and I’m a shoe lover! I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to wear them again. The only pair that fit were my Ugg boots but because I couldn’t bend down or reach my feet, my husband had to help me put them on and take them off.

Flaunt that belly mama!

There will be days when you won’t feel your best. You can’t sleep, the baby is kicking, you wobble and need help getting up or sitting down. Your body goes through drastic changes but this is temporary. Trust me, you look beautiful. You might feel like you don’t have that pregnancy glow but you do! You are creating a life inside of you. A beautiful baby is forming and soon you will hold that baby in your arms and say, “How did I get so lucky!”. So, show off that belly, take lots of pictures and when you pose touch your belly and smile because the secret to a stylish pregnancy is rocking the baby bump.
